Change of job title

Can a job title just be changed with no consultation? A friend was told her job title was changing. She's not sure if her job description is being changed too.

I wouldn't say job titles are relevant, unless it's going from manager to something less senior.

At my last job, my job role was different on my email signature, contract and within the hr system. They should be notifying her if her job description is changing

However, beware of the sentence , "any other duties as required by the business" or similar

Tell her to get union advice. My last employer started this bullshit as a way to minimise my role. I raised a grievance and ultimately left. Good practice should be that there is some sort of consultation and the rationale behind it being explained. I would tell her to tread carefully.

Likely to be permissible as long as the role itself isn't changing significantly.

Depends on the circumstances. Also, if it is really well known within your sector.

Project manager to manager of projects (I paraphrase) would be no problem.

Financial Controller to Finance Team Leader would be a significant downgrade.

Beware of minimising, as per PP, as - once you have left a job all you really have left on the CV is your job title.

mind you, I was once "finance specialist 5"

Ideally you would at least expect to be involved.

It's gone from something like Administrator to Visitor Experience Assistant. But their work hasn't changed.

Hmmmmm. Depending on how your friend wants her career to go that could either help or hinder her future prospects. If she sees herself moving on to say, office manager ar senior admin roles then the original administration job title is probably better.
