Work

Finding my boss intolerable

I'm a freelancer, currently doing work for one boss whom I'm finding really difficult.

Aside from his peculiar personality, which I tolerate, I'm finding him increasingly rude and abrupt. I don't know if it's just a personality clash or whether he's deliberately trying to make life difficult. He's always worked on his own, and I think has no idea how to manage people and leaves me to my own devices, unless he feels like intervening (which he does, occasionally). Clients think he's great m- but they don't have to work with him!!

I won't go into more detail here but the question I keep going over is this: do I keep going (I love the work, and it's an indefinite contract) while being quite unhappy in the workplace, or do I quit, knowing that I then have no guaranteed income at all (currently doing between 3/4 days a week). My DS will be doing GSCEs next year and will need support from me so I might leave in a year's time anyway, but some days I just don't know whether I can stand my employer for even another day, let alone another year.

Has anyone had a similar experience, and what did you do about it? Thank you.

If you find boss that bad I'd leave, but it does depend what sector you work in. In some sectors getting new work is very easy so then I'd defo leave, but if it's harder to find other work then I'd stay until I had some other means of income sorted.

I have a boss who is an absolute bully, have been trapped in the job due to my pregnancy. Same thing... clients all think he's wonderful, the rest of the team think he is horrible and love when he's on annual leave (even though he thinks we're all incompetent!). Is there anyone higher up you can go to?

Good luck with it all :-)
