Working for a charity

Anyone working in the charity sector and struggling with the inefficiency, paralysed decision making and overly informal working environment. I have worked in charities for 20 yrs and over recent years feel that the inefficiencies, blocks to performing well and staff turnover etc is worsening. Desperate to leave but need to retrain..

I have a relative that works for a charity and she reports they are appalling. Poor HR, poor decision making, not using the talent pool effectively and so on. She’s getting out too. I am not sure the sector really values talent and it doesn’t pay well so top people avoid it. It then breeds a certain type of manager who won’t take tough decisions, or any decision at all. They are all trying to be nice but are ineffectual and useless.

What size of charity do you work for? I’ve worked for several - from hundreds of staff to 50 in my current organisation and I’ve never found the issues you’re describing. What role do you do?
