Sorry this is going to be a bit of a long one. I want to explain my situation so maybe I can get the best advice.

I became pregnant at 16, had my daughter at 17, I was completely alone, no family, no friends and DDs dad wasn't in her life, I went to college and followed up with a short apprenticeship, I did ok, but really found that I couldn't logistically make working 9-5 work what with travel times being 1hur plus each way. There just wasn't anyone who was willing to help- childminders were generally happy t have DD from 8-5:30

So I started working as a self employed person, but for one reason or another it hasn't always worked out.

I am now married, and DH and I share a construction company, I've helped DH over the past 7 years. DH seems to think I should train to do the same job as him in the construction industry.

I am keen on this idea, but I cannot figure out how we would make wrk times fit with family commitments. To do this job I would need to be in work st about 7:30 and at work until maybe 5pm.

I can't really ask anyone for help, we could possibly pay someone to be a "nanny" type of person, but DD is 10! Next year she goes to high school, and I wouldn't want her to be babied but I think that there is need for someone to be around before/after school.

How do people usually manage it? I doubt I will be able to work flexibly as I know that's out f the question for DH.

I'm really sad thinking that I might just waste the next 6 years being sat at home because we can't work around the school times.

What job does DH do? Can you not train for a role you want in your company?
