Working with a broken ankle

I have a great job, been in it 25 years though not with the same employer. I broke my ankle. No noble reason, I went to a charity event related to my job, lots of other employees there. Did nothing shamful. So I drank too much and on the way to the taxi, fell ( from drunkeness ) and broke my ankle. As I have two weeks off, the six weeks off is now four weeks. What do I tell management? Its like the good aids bad aids sketch, this is a bad ankle break i.e. drink. Help!!!!

You have a broken ankle. It doesn't make matter how. The issue is whether you can work with an ankle in a cast or not. If you can, great. If not, you can self-certify for the first seven days, then you need a sick note for the remaining duration that you are unable to work. If you have company sick pay, great. If not, SSP from the fourth day of sickness. It is that simple.
