My only basis is I'm drawn to it and I don't know why!

I'm 33, mucked about most of my life with office work, nursing, a few addiction issues ect. I'm at s point in my life now where I want to get into a career and I'm drawn to jobs around the stem field.

I see women with uniforms on for aeronautical engineers and different plants and I just want to know what they do?! I'm so drawn to it but I have no back ground in any of these areas and no real idea of where I want to end up but I need to start somewhere so that's what I'm doing here.

Where can I start, what can I look at or read for inspiration?

Forgot to add I've been raising three kids in the midst of this!

Open University for a degree probably the best start.

But STEM careers are very diverse. Do you mean you want to be an engineer in a factory? I write software and we work in an office. You will need a degree. So OU is a good place to start.

Have you look at apprenticeship too? There are engineering jobs that are not so academic.
