Applying for your own job

So, i have just been told the head count for our little team at work is going from 4 to 2.
We have basically been asked to apply for our job - if we dont get it, we are redundant.

Can they do this? Its litrally the exact job and role title of what i am doing now.

I thought they were supposed to change the job/title to be able to make you redundant??

We are in consultation but just wanted some views before i go in guns blazing.

Sorry for the late reply. Yes they can, it’s just a decrease in headcount for that role. Did you make it or choose redundancy.
