Help! Start up idea.

I’d planned to start a children’s party planning business. Not my main job as I work PT in a good career however just something I love doing and would make some extra pennies save for my DC. A
Good friend has just launched exactly what I planned. There’s no way either of us would have known, just bad luck and timing of my part. sad

Maybe it’s kist not my calling just now but what else could I do (children related) that doesn’t involve needing to rent premises or employ anyone else. I’m currently on maternity leave so have a bit of time to put a plan in place.

If that’s what you want to do, then go for it or do it together.
You can start planning, write notes, set up social media accounts etc, learn how to ‘work’ ads on social media. Your research & responses will tell you whether it’s a winner or not. Good luck 👍
There are a load of things you can do working for yourself from home.

Hi @KLG3101 - As Mark Twain once said, there is no such thing as an original idea, just an authentic idea. If you would like to run a childrens party business, go for it, your friend having the same idea shouldn't stop you, in fact it might be fun sharing ideas as you both build your businesses. There's a huge number of potential clients out there, and it's not like there isn't already supply. You just need to put your stamp on it, be authentic to your style.

Equally, there are a huge number of child related businesses you could set up. However, given you already have a great job so this is more like a hobby than a necessity, you'll probably only do it if you love it, and you say party planning is something you love doing. So, I'd say stick with the party planning idea.
