Just been for a job interview cleaning hotel rooms in a poxy little hotel looks more like a dodgy motel... anyway, bloke wants three references. Ok can give him one from previous job I had for 7 years, and temp job I've just done for 2 weeks but then wants one from 8 years ago. The manager retired the day I left he was 68 and not well I doubt he's still alive. It was also a contract cleaner company and they no longer have the contract there haven't for 8 years so how I'd get on I'll never know. It seems a bit stupid. My reference for the past 7 years is a really good one surely that's enough!!! Not that it matters his attitude stunk!

Anyway, job I really want closes tomorrow so fingers crossed.

I didn't think employers gave any references at all any more?

This is what I keep hearing. Well I have one from my 7 year job, why he'd need one from so long ago is beyond me. Have another interview with some where else on Friday, hopefully that'll work out!

Why does he need 3 references
I work in childcare and we only ask for 2 and we have to show references and employment checks to Ofsted if they ask to see them
Most references are just confirmation that the person worked there and they didn't leave because of any disciplinary reasons
3 references seems excessive

It was the most bizarre interview i've ever been to. Perhaps he just didn't want to employ me in which case just say so.

Got 3 interviews next week so not losing sleep over it, it just seemed so weird!!!!!!!!
