NHS sabbatical / career break

Has anyone had one or requested one and been turned down?

I have been at my Trust for a year on an FTC and am now on a permanent contract. I love my job but my partner has just been offered a 2 year placement abroad as part of his government job and I'd love to go too.

As a family it would be great, I already speak the language of the host country and my dc are 5 and 11 so it would come at a 'natural' education break for the elder one.

I can't help but be nervous about a potential problem with my own job though so I'm wondering how to best go about requesting the career break.

I knew people who have done this but it was a few years ago when staffing was much better, you will have to ask your line manager. I know you used to be able to take six months off, are you thinking of taking two years out. Why don't you just resign then see how you feel when you get back to the UK.
