Hi, I am not strictly returning to work however I am attempting to change jobs after staying with the same small local firm for almost 20 years. I stayed as it offered a good family/work balance and when I was offered other posts in the past my employer made it worth my while to stay (pay rises and promotion). I have really enjoyed my time there but with my youngest now at school, and my industry on its knees (!), I am keen to move on and have applied for other related posts in the public sector. This is a learning process in itself as competency based applications are a challenge. I am doubtful my 1st two applications will make the cut. I am wondering if anyone could advise whether to explain my reasons for staying local for so long? Is it a faux pas to mention family reasons for staying still career-wise? Thanks
