Tax return

Am I correct in thinking that, if I register as a sole trader now, I am not required to do a tax return until January 2019? Are the tax returns due in at the end of this month (online) for the tax year April 2016-April 2017?

So come January 2019 I would do my taxes from April 2017 - April 2018? So my taxes would only show 4 Months?

Is this right?

Correct

You have from 6 April 2018 to 31 January 2019 to file the return - I wouldn't leave it until the last minute

No definitely don't leave it until the last minute! Every year there are people in the papers with their sad faces because they waited until 31st January and the site crashed or something. And they got fined.

I did my tax return for 2016-17 in around November.

Oh ok! I definitely won't leave it til the last minute. So I could actually do it May this year and submit it if I wanted to? And just to clarify it would only need to show activity from Jan 2018 until April 2018

Thank you!
