SMP Query in contracted employment

Hi,

I am very confused as I have checked HMRC and other relevant posts but not able to find answer.

My employment contract ends in Feb and I am a week short to qualify for SMP. I am not sure how it works? I am not able to discuss this with my HR because of some other issues.

If you mean the process relating to SMP in your current company, then if you give them your MATB1 they will then respond confirming that you are not entitled to SMP, assuming your calculations are right. Or if you don’t get your MATB1 until after you’ve left anyway, your employer’s response isn’t a factor.

If you mean “how it works” as in, what you might be entitled to, the answer is Maternity Allowance, which is similar to SMP. Have a look on the .gov website for details.
