I used to be a driver for the same company as my husband, they allowed us to work opposing shifts (part time for me) so we could look after our children. However the company had major problems and made 75% of the workforce redundant in the last 3 years, both of us included.
I've been working in a school kitchen as it was all I could find to fit around the kids to allow my husband the flexibility to find a job that suits him, but I don't enjoy the work, the pay is poor and I'm not even very good at it! I find it difficult, I get backaches and sore rashes on my hands from the washing up.
I've been searching for a suitable driving position for over two years now, I crave the open road, I have a very good record and was very well trained by my previous company. I just can't find anyone willing to offer a term time position and I know a lot of mothers are in the same situation.
Come on you big companies, recognise that there are a lot of brilliant mums out here that are worth taking on. Their positions can easily be covered by students during the holidays :)
