Hi everyone

Could I get some advice regarding my first self assessment please? I started doing audio typing from home part time in September, I registered as self employed and I do this alongside my 30 hr per week job.

I have a few questions, one when will my first self assessment be due? and two will I get a letter to inform me when I need to do this?

TIA for any advice you can offer.

It will be due along with payment by 31st January 2019 if you do it online. Earlier if you do a paper return. You will be notified after April 6th that it can be filled in. This will either be in writing or by email. You are best off just doing it as soon as it can be done.

Does anyone have any advice for doing self-assessment? I'm doing my first one this month. I'm also employed - which probably complicates matters.
I've done about 15 days work - most of these WFH. I've kept travel and food receipts. What else should I be aware of?
Specifically I have a professional membership that I can claim for (the membership org keep reminding members) I've never done it and I know I can claim for the previous 5 years too. Is this easy enough to work out on the form? Any help gratefully received and thanks OP - I hope you don't mind me joining your thread.
