How do you do it? Do you ever regret having a 3rd child? Is it always chaos? What's the hardest thing about going from 2 to 3 kids?

I have 2 beautiful girls, but think I may try for a 3rd. I'm having a hard time deciding, but since I'm almost40, I know I should decide soon. I work 3 days a week and have a wonderful nanny. It works out well with 2, but don't know if I could manage with 3. TIA.

we have 5 with big gaps. not through choice( the gaps i mean) but its worked out well. big ones can help more & fewer safety issues. school and out of school care helps . bless all you teachers out there.
sorry for one handed typing sleepless baby on knee!!!!

This week is better as dd1 went back to school yesterday (she's full time) and dd1 has started nursery with dd2 (3 days a week). maybe the key to having 3 close together is proper childcare, and a fair amount of it! we just haven't had enough this last 7 weeks, mainly cos we thought it would be nice to have the kids at home more. which was a mistake, next year we'll use holiday clubs.

so almost40, if you've got a good nanny, that will make a big difference.

Fennel, we do have a good nanny right now, but I'm always wondering if she is going to leave us. I do think that childcare makes all the difference in the world, no matter what the age gap. Based on all the advice and just seeing my friends around me who have 3 children, I am leaning towards a bigger gap between DD2 and our third. I'm leaning towards having a 3rd, although who knows if it will even be possible - at least I think we'll give it a try. I do think a gap of 3 or even 4 years would be great, as you suggest Zebra. The only major potential problem is that I will then be 42. Hope it's not too difficult to conceive then. KristinaM - 5!! Zebra, given your 3 close together, I do think it must be hard to think about going back to work. Likewise, since I'm already back at work, it is hard for me to think about having a third. I'll let MN, especially you all, know if and when we start trying for number 3! Thanks for all your wise advice and sharing your experiences.

Also, Clary, do you have a nanny? Avalon, are you also working outside the home? Just looking at this thread again
