Job is making me feel drained. Had enough!!!

I really fecking hate my job.

I've been there 3 months and I've had nothing but aggro.

There is really shit progresses and procedures. Nothing is told to you before hand so you learn basically as you fuck up.

The last straw today is I lost somehow a small piece of paper with a persons name on it and today's date. It was on company letter headed compliments slip.

The management have hit the rough. My manager was so rude and told me to go home and find it. I explained I put it safe and my work bag hasn't left the house since last week so how this has happened is beyond me.

What makes me laugh is last week management knew I had the piece of paper on me but didn't ask me to hand it in.

I can't see how it's a big issue. There is no major data on there I.e birthday, numbers, addresses, photos or details. Just a name and date.

What can they do? I've been told that it's going to senior management Sad

Surely the person that gave you the name will know what it is?
Sounds very petty to me. Ok if you lost someone’s NI and bank details etc but a name and date?

3 months isn’t very long are you having reviews and support 8n your new role?

I hated my job for the first 6 months, cried nearly every day but 5 years in and I can now do it in my sleep.

It was a signature to say they had received items. This position is local authority services involving young people.

I'm having reviews and supervision but nothing like this comes up during. It's only when i do something wrong it comes up.

I don't know how much more I can take. I wasn't overly concerned I've checked data protection and it's nothing that came be found publicly I.e- electoral roll.

Sounds like human error. 8d admit to it, find a way around it and assume we could all move on from it.

Do you enjoy it mainly? If not, find something else

I have admitted fault. I can't find the stupid piece of paper anywhere. I'm trying not to stress but she was fuming with me. Shouting at me just find it as I tried to approach her to talk about it Blush

I'm looking elsewhere but not much in this field. Starting to think about doing another job just like admin or something in the interim.

Have you looked in your handbag? The amount of times I’m handed things as I leave and stuff them in my handbag for ease....

No one should be shouting at you, it’s a bit of paper confirming receipt ffs

That's such an over reaction for a piece of paper with a name on it.

I'm surprised you've had a review at 8 weeks, the usual seems to be 5/6 months.

I really hope you get this sorted OP. It sounds like a stressful environment.

Your boss sounds like a terrible manager. I manage people and I would never dream of talking to them like that.

Yes we do have a HR department. Can I contact them? I feel so victimised. I was complained about a few months ago because I yawned and appeared tired in a hot meeting room by another professional and my manager referred me to HR. I feel like any first thing I do it's blown well out of proportion.

I came back and have just cried all night.
It's a letter headed slip with a name on. Not a confidential document as such Sad I just can't take much more. I'm over thinking ever little last thing which is why I think I keep
Making small minuscule mistakes which are adding up constantly.

If a manager can’t wrap their head around a simple concept called human error, there is nothing you can do about it OP. Try to explain to her when she is calm that you obv didn’t lose it by choice and that you would make sure such slips don’t happen again.

I wish I was joking. This is what I mean. Every little thing is made out to be massive and turned into serious events which is making me stressed and anxious. I've only slept for 4 hours last night because of it.

Depends on your job to be honest.
It potentially is a huge breach in confidentiality as it’s headed paper and a persons name. I would lose my job.

Human error. Is there a copy of it somewhere or was it just a top copy. Have they asked the person who signed it if they can confirm in writing they signed for it. You sound very stressed and upset, don't let a job affect your mental health, I'd start looking for something else and go off sick with stress.

Littlechocola- it is a breach as such. But it's information that can be readily found online.

So the impact on the person is very little.

I feel for you if your company would get rid of you for human error. Confused

If it can be found online then out can't be a massive secret. What does the person affected think? Maybe they just don't like you, it happened to me, I did a very good job but got singled out for petty things that everyone did.

The person affected doesn't know. I can't even for sure say what happened. I think I cleared my bag out of recipets and put them in the bin and it was in with it. It was half the size of an A4 slip so I folded up neatly.

Thing is I'm to slow. When they asked me I should of just said oh I've put it in the bin rather than saying oh I'm not sure I think I've lost it somewhere.... because I feel like lying is better than having to deal with this. Sad

You should have just said sorry I binned it by mistake, why was it in your bag if it was work related. Maybe their issue is not really about the piece of paper, do you think they might not trust you or find you a bit flippant. Work politics are a real nightmare.

We travel a lot for work and are not predominantly office based. So we have to leave things in our cars aswell so the risk is always there to have things lost and stolen.

I'm not quick enough I'm always really honest. That's my issue is people at work are always getting away with things because they lie or are good at covering it up.

Sounds like it could be quite serious. If the letter heading was for say the probation service (top of mind because they were mentioned on the Today Programme this morning) and then had a client's name on it, surely you would have breached guidance for keeping data safe. Even throwing it in a bin would have breached guidance.

It sounds like you haven't had proper training on data protection and dealing with confidential paperwork?

In that the management seem to be blowing up about it and you are not sure whether you've done anything wrong. In which case they are actually in the wrong.

Data protection is a very serious issue and something management should train up for their staff. You should ask them how can you keep data safe if you are travelling, that must be a joint responsibility. Have you received any data protection training or ever signed a contract confirming you understand d.p. law?
