It's two weeks from the day you're signed off, not two of your working weeks. Therefore, assuming your new note runs from last Thursday, you should return to work two weeks from then (Thu 28th)

From date of issue. So you are due back after 27th.

Ok thanks what happens I if just tell them I will return on the 31st? Would I get it into trouble? Or just take it as absent

Why would you do that? What days should you be working that week? You are running the risk of a disciplinary for non certificated absence.

I usually work Monday and tues but that’s Xmas day and Boxing Day, so not sure if my hours would be covered with my sick note that week? I’m asking because I have really bad anxiety and was going to visit my mum who I haven’t been seen in 6 months and if my note covered my hours I was going to stay on till the 30th and return to work on the 31st

It should cover Christmas and Boxing Day, but you would be due back for your next normal working day. That may be Jan 1st depending on bank holiday policy.

Your first day back from sickness will be 27 December, if you would normally work that day. If not, it’ll be whatever your first working day is after that.

If you don’t want to go back until later than that you’ll either need to get signed off again or book annual leave.

ninjapants · 13/12/2017 12:06

Based on the dates on your sick notes you're due back to work on your next working day from 27th onwards, whenever that is. If you're not due back in until 31st so be it.

Please consider how wise it is to be travelling to visit your Mum when you're unwell enough to be off work. You need to take care of yourself, rest and get better. Could she come to you instead?
