Responding to Notice?

Hi, this is a very new situation to me so I shall try explain it as best as I can.
Basically I have been in the same job since I left school, until earlier this year I went on maternity leave. I was due back at work near the end of december, but I found myself dreading it and decided to look for a new job. I found one and proceeded to hand my notice in at old work, giving 4 weeks notice and it coincided with the end of my maternity leave.
My question is, ( as I have never handed my notice in before!) does my old employer have to respond/will they respond? It’s been a week now and I have heard nothing bar from an old colleague asking when i’m leaving.
Also in the letter, I stated that I was due to be paid some AL I had accured and I asked them to state if the information was correct & wpuld it be paid in my final SMP payment or next month, so should I expect a response soon? Just wondering how long to leave it before I ring them up?

I would expect them to acknowledge receipt of the notice. I think it's reasonable to chase after a week of hearing nothing. Have you spoken to your line manager?

RhinoGirl · 29/11/2017 10:33

No, line manager is on AL at the minute apparently.

Make sure HR have it, and get confirmation from them. You don’t need it from your manager.

I will find the number for HR and give them a ring. I’m not sure if it is HR who usually respond or Manager, I think I just expected to hear something by now.

Whatever their usual procedure is, HR should be able to tell you.
