Have just seen a lovely job advertised but it is full-time. For context, I work in a really niche field- there are fewer than ten jobs in my specialism advertised per year and that's across the UK and all levels. It is a tiny step up from my current job, but much more interesting and with better opportunities/resources. Current job is 0.6 FTE and I had it before we had DD.
DD is almost two and thriving at nursery, but I always said I didn't want to put a child in childcare for more than three days a week. DH can't reduce hours now - heading for retirement so plan was he would retire when DD starts school and become a SAHD whilst I looked to increase my house to FT then.
I don't know what my chances are of getting the job on a PT basis, and at what point I'd ask for this. Family members have always taken FT jobs then announced they wanted to be PT before starting it and it's been fine - but that's NHS front line where they need x number of y grade staff on each shift to cover 24/7, so not the same as a Mon-Fri job that has occasional evening/weekend stuff.
Potential job is public sector. I would be up for a job share but no idea how I'd go about organising that.
