Hmmm. I'm a freelance copywriter and for the past 2 years I've been working exclusively for one company. The company is based abroad and they pay me a fixed monthly salary. I have to invoice on 20th of each month and they pay it straight away (same day).
It's a small family-run company where virtually every employee aside from me seems to be either related to the founder or a very close family friend. While I've mostly been treated well, the founder is a megalomaniac, who seems to have mood swings. He's given to either worshipping the ground a person walks on or completely devaluing and demonising them. I was flavour of the month with him all this time, but now he has suddenly swung in the opposite direction. Apparently he is pissed off about something and will no longer even reply to work-related emails from me (this is typical of him -- he is a man in his 40s but immature, controlling and petulant). In fact it seems somebody else is doing part of my job now as my role included writing the weekly newsletter, but some garbled randomness in poor English just got sent out today and I've no idea who wrote it.
So, he's not paid my invoice. Given that they're not UK based I don't know how I can enforce payment legally. This leaves me in dire straits financially and I'm not sure what to do.
In the medium to longterm I will sever ties with this dysfunctional company and get my income elsewhere. Any suggestions on what to do in the meantime?
I need to make up as much of this income as I can from other sources. My bank won't give me an increased overdraft limit unfortunately or a loan. I've bills to pay in 2 weeks that I was relying on my usual monthly salary to pay with. I'm selling some stuff on eBay to make quick money. Any other suggestions?
