I work in a predominantly male environment. When I joined my employer (six years ago), I took the role of assistant director (reporting to the director in my dept). My role was essentially deputising for him with the idea being I would be his successor one day (large age gap). Over next few years, I took on many more responsibilities and as a result was promoted. I didn't take the same title (director) although did take exact job description under a different title (manager), the director was also given a new title (specialist on xxx). We then both reported to the directors previous line manager. Skip forward another year, I now have been given director title (as manager was confusing to clients). My role has increased in scope even more. I knew I came in at a much lower level salary than (ex) director, reason at the time being his position/no ofyears experience. During this time have had small salary increments but suspect so has he.

A few questions: 1) am I entitled to ask for full disclosure of salary and comp details now for comparison (as suspect this will be huge) 2) will I/my job be legally protected if I challenge this? I love my job and don't want to be forced out for asking for this to be rectified 3) is there anything else I should be wary of here? 4) are other benefits considered ie own office etc?

Thanks for reading, any advice much appreciated.

Hello. I'm definitely not an expert but if you've been given the director title, I would have assumed that your role band would have changed to reflect this? Does your company do salary ranges so you would know the bare minimum you would be entitled to? Unfortunately you can't ask for other salaries but you could look at some external market figures (maybe glass door as a starter) to work out what you could be paid and then take it up with your line manager.
Agree, it is frustrating when scope creep happens and people don't want to match the salary.
In terms of other benefits, does your handbook say what you could be entitled to or do you know what other directors have e.g. company car/healthcare etc.?
Good luck!
