Job Advert - short timings

There is a job advertised, I am going to apply but there is something that is putting me off, it closes today 16/11/17 and opened on 02/11/17, the interview date is 21/11/17. These dates are very close together, especially as there are only 2 working weekdays between closing and interview. I think this is a foregone conclusion and it is an internal persons job! What do you think? Is there a rule of thumb to follow on this?

Maybe I am getting a bit jaded on the job application front, recent bad experiences, such as applied to a government agency for a job which I thought I was perfect for, never got an interview and ended up asking a Freedom Of Information. Found out they had 67 applications and they interviewed 1 [one] person, who was a civil servant and got the job.

The reason I am putting this on the site is I asked my wife about it and said I was going to google it, she said "I do not need google as I have Mums net"

Everything

If you’ve got a decent application ready to go then you haven’t got anything to lose... but I can understand that you’re a bit jaded.

You may well be right about this job, but you’ve got to be in it to win it as they say, so it depends how keen you are...

I work in retail and we try to turn round vacancies this quickly because we want someone to start ASAP not because we’ve got a candidate already.

I would assume that they desperately need the vacancy filled. If the current employee has only one months notice, they are probably trying to minimise the amount of time without someone in post. Mentioning the interview date when it is so close is to try and ensure that people who apply have considered whether they can actually make that date.

It’s coming up to Christmas everyone is trying to squeeze sifting and interviewing in before the holidays. They may also want to get the post filled and for notice periods to start before Xmas so they have someone in the job from Jan. It doesn’t mean someone’s sat on it necessarily

I did not get an interview and the job went internal........
