Sick note / return

Hi.

I have been off sick from work and had a weeks sick note for stress (tues until tues) Yesterday I got another sick note for a further two weeks as I didn't think I'd be well enough to go back after the expiry of the first sick note. However today I decided to give it a go as I was worried about taking too much time off and wanted to show commitment. I completed the day at work but now feel it was too little too soon and I actually still feel too ill to focus. So is my second sick note (for a further two weeks) still valid or does my return to work today cancel it out? Work are not aware of the second sick note at this stage. Sorry if confusing.

Your GP assessed your health and capability to be at work, and decided in that consultation that they would sign you off as not being fit to work. As far as they are concerned, you weren't well and wouldn't be for a further two weeks. You made the decision to try to return but still felt ill, so the Fit note still stands according to your GPs assessment.

Provided you've given your employer's adequate information about the state of your health and that you will return in 2weeks time (with a fitnote covering days of absence), then you have carried out your duty as an employee. Hope you feel well soon.
