First day back since the beginning of August tomorrow (after mat leave) and DD is very nearly 8 months old. I will be fine, but she is really Mummy-centric, only takes a bottle when she feels like it, and I am not sure that I like the nursery or trust them as far as I could spit them.

Come and hold my hand???

Shite cakes Norma. Sorry.

I know this is probably ridiculous but it's the way my mind works so I'll air it any way. Is there any way you could NOT go back to work yet? I mean I'm sure you've thought it all through, but she's weeny.

lulumama · 15/04/2007 21:51

but as a reward you get to meet me on saturday !! woo hoo!!

and i have ordered my crocs especially !

slightly concerenc you say you don;t trust the nursery??!?

NormaStanleyfletcher · 15/04/2007 21:53

No way on earth that I can't go back unless I win the lottery - the money has well and truly run out. Nursery staff are nice but I just don't know.....

When I asked if I should provide her food they said 'no that's fine we have packets and jars'.

I am providing her food and have various steamed finger foods packed ready for the morrow (how poncey do I sound?)

And I wonder if she really is unhappy will they call me (I will be just 5 mins away) or will they take the CC route of baby care??

good for you for providing own food ! in your lunch break, look for a nursery that frigging well cooks !!

chocolatekimmy · 15/04/2007 22:31

Sure returning to work will be fine. Once you have been back a few days (hours?) you will be fine. Your daughter will be fine too.

BUT

seriously - you don't trust (or like) the nursery? What are you on? This is your precious child you are talking about - you need to get that sorted ASAP!

NormaStanleyfletcher · 15/04/2007 22:56

wellllll - I had a childminder who was ab fab - though she was having a babe in Jan. She had the babe, and her other half left her two weeks later, so really she had too much on and had to cancel. Have you tried finding childcare that late in the day? It ain't easy. I have done my best

How did it go Normski?

lulumama · 16/04/2007 13:52

make sure you come back for more handholding after work !

NormaStanleyfletcher · 16/04/2007 14:02

I am at work now. I have managed to only ring once to check she was OK, and they said she was fine.

Still feel a bit wobbly though

lulumama · 16/04/2007 14:03

awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww......bet she'll be fine !

my crocs are coming on wednesday

are you ok? really?

NormaStanleyfletcher · 16/04/2007 14:06

I think I am - I might call and see if she is OK again (though I know they would call me if there was a problem).

What colour are the crocs (I am missing my purple ones right now as I am in silly boots and my feet are too hot)

OP posts:
lulumama · 16/04/2007 14:07

army green, they had run out of butter, and had army green, which i think will go just as well with my stuff....they said i can return them and wait for the butter ones if i don;t like the colour !

call them, it is her first day !

NormaStanleyfletcher · 16/04/2007 18:03

Well i am home and she was absolutely fine!

hey norma, i went back today too - second longest day of my life (longest being my last day at work when pg, before mat leave ).
my dd was fine, cried when i brought her out of nursery and then fell asleep!?! hmmmph, didnt miss me then

Swizzler · 16/04/2007 20:38

Olivo: glad it went well

ebenezer · 16/04/2007 21:17

See?? You did it??? She was fine! You're fine! You're amazing, fantastic and wonderful. Just like all working mums!

NormaStanleyfletcher · 16/04/2007 21:51

Nursery staff were lovely and the two times I rang they reassured me. When I picked her up she was asleep, but when she woke up she just grinned at me, not traunatised at all (unlike her mum all day ). She has been really cheerful and not at all clingy all evening.

So what's that all about?

olivo - well done you - hope you enjoyed some of it as I did - two of my fave workmates had me nearly crying with laughter today .

Spidermama · 17/04/2007 10:14

Well done for getting through it Norma. Hopefully it'll be all downhill now.

ksmum · 19/04/2007 13:38

Well done, I have only been back at work since Jan and I found it really hard. Cried quite a lot first few days, though daughter was fine.

One little thing: you might find after a couple of weeks she might go into a clingy phase. This happened to me and I had about 2 weeks of her holding onto my leg and crying when I left her in the morning and complete over excitement and manic relief when I collected her. It felt like forever but it did only last a couple of weeks.

May well not happen to you: my daughter is 2 so she is a bit more aware of stuff I suppose. But just in case. Though maybe I am just being depressing!
