Work Related Stress

Asking behalf of my friend who is absolutely distraught at her employer (big national org, I dont work there so dont know procedures).

She says she has spoken to ACAS for advice.

She wants to go on (work related) stress leave and now has a GP note signing her off for 4 weeks. Can she simply email her boss (who is root cause of stress) rather than call him to say she is off due to stress and will send in sick note?

ACAS says she can do this and its better because its documented too.

Any advice is gratefully rec'd. Thanks.

The procedure is to advise the line manager normally before 10am that their Fitnote expires on xxx date. It depends on what their company policy is, as to whether just an email is acceptable or if a phone call is also required. Email certainly covers her legally especially if she can scan the Fitnote as an accompanying attachment

She can email her boss or phone HR
She can also request that her boss does not phone her at home but use email to contact her and say that the GP has advised this.
Otherwise her boss will probs ring her and ask her when she thinks she will return to work
