Three day week and Bank Holidays

Hopefully next year I will be working three days instead of five. My agreed days are Monday, Wednesday and Friday, obviously most bank holidays fall on a Monday when the office is closed. My job would need me to work three days in order to get the work done, so I would end up working Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. I assume that in that case I would legally have to be paid four days to cover the Bank Holiday too?

Where I work if you work part time you get extra leave allowance but you have to book annual leave for any bank holidays that fall on your normal working week days. So if you worked extra you may be entitled to extra leave worth checking out.

It depends on how your contract is worded & whether you can be paid overtime or are expected to take time off in lieu.

At my office, I only get pro-rata Bank Holidays. I work a 4 day week so only get 6.5 days worth of Bank Holidays. A 3 day week would see you entitled to 5 days worth of Bank Holidays, in my office.

Therefore, if you weren't working on the Bank Holiday Monday, you would be required to book holiday to cover the day off and would then work the remaining 2 days. However, if you were to swap your day off, you wouldn't need to book holiday but you would still only get 3 days pay.

I don't know if this is typical of all workplaces but just offering my experience.

Your holiday entitlement would be pro rated and then the bank holiday Mondays and Fridays would be deducted from this if the business isn't open for you to be able to work.

If you then chose to work an extra day you would be paid for the working days but the Monday or Friday would be taken from your holiday allowance. This is how it works for where I am.

So my current full time contract says I have 25 days holiday pa, plus Bank Hoildays, therefore I would be entitled to 15 days holiday plus 5 Bank Holidays for a 3 day week?
Extra days worked over the 3 days would be paid at normal pay, not overtime rate ( already agreed) , so at Easter when there a Bank Holiday on Monday and Friday, I would need to work 2 extra days to get my work done, so in effect I would be paid for 5 days, but lose 2 days of my Bank Holiday entitlement, have I got that right?

You wouldn't have to book the Monday and Friday as holiday if you swap those work days to your usual non-working days of Tuesday and Thursday. However, if you do book them as holiday and work extra days then I think you would be paid for 5. It depends on whether you would prefer the holiday or the money, I suppose.

When you are part time your holiday is normally calculated in hours rather than days and your BH hours just added on to your normal holiday entitlement.

Finding this a bit hard to follow as I work in a 24/7 post and our holiday entitlement plus bank holiday entitlement is just lumped together as one and calculated in hours.

I would've thought that if your place of work is actually closed on one of your rostered working days that you would just take that day as a holiday without the need for you to work another day in order to "get the work done."

Unless it specifically suited you to work a different day - in which case I would've thought that you just then get paid normally for your three day week and your holiday entitlement is not affected.

If you took the day as holiday and ALSO worked an extra day then you would be entitled to the extra days pay and would obviously also have used some of your holiday hours.

However to my knowledge most part time workers have to work up to the hours of a normal full time contract before any additional hours are paid at overtime rate. So if you work say 22 hours and a full timer works 37 the first additional 15 hours extra that you work would only be paid at your normal rate.

That would be my take on it anyway, but could be wrong.

In that situation it would be normal to get your usual 3 day pay but also keep your holiday days to use elsewhere
