Promotion on maternity leave

I was hoping someone could help...

There has recently been a restructure at work and I applied for a role at a slightly higher banding than my original one. I interviewed and got the role. The new manager says he will need cover until I return from maternity leave.

I was under the impression that the changing to my banding should be effective from now rather than when I return to work but this doesn't tally with what my work is thinking.

They're right. You get the increase when you start the job.

You get the increase when you start your job but may pay is calculated as an average of your previous earnings, not your current ones so it wont affect your mat pay. You local mat policy will explain this.
