KIT Days

I am on maternity leave until January but but have ten KIT days I can use, am I right in thinking I will still get SMP but also get paid for the KIT days at my full daily rate?

Just wanted to check that by going in, it doesn’t mean I lose SMP?

Thanks

Where I work the answer is yes. I got SMP and then claimed my kit days when I got back to work and was paid my full daily rate.

You won't lose your SMP but what you are paid in addition will depend on your employer's policy - my current employer offsets the SMP, so effectively just tops it up to full pay for the hours worked but I have also had employers who pay the full hourly or daily rate on top of the SMP.

You'll need to check your own employer's policy to find out how they do it.

Your employer isn't obliged to give you kit days. I didn't do any. It wasn't necessary where I worked.

I have the option of taking ten KIT days, according to the policy it states - if you are receiving SMP only, this will be topped up to full pay on a pro rata basis for the number of hours you complete on that day.

So that doesn’t mean I get SMP + my daily rate, I will get SMP with those days topped up to full pay?

Anyone know a way to work that out? I am only doing them to up my pay for those months

Your employers are lucky to have you.

TittyGolightly · 02/10/2017 13:35

SMP is paid weekly so divide by 7 for daily rate.

Calculate your hourly rate by dividing your salary by 52 and then the number of hours you work per week.

Multiply hourly rate by number of hours per KIT day. Deduct daily SMP. That's your top up (gross).

Have you checked when you can claim your money though?! Mine could only be claimed after I went back to work, not during my mat leave.

greendale17 · 02/10/2017 22:31

I claimed for my KIT days as I went along and got paid in that month salary

That's absolutely not how KIT days are supposed to be used. In fact you can only use them whilst on maternity, not once you're back on the payroll

RNBrie · 02/10/2017 23:42

TittyGolightly yes, used whilst on mat leave but paid on return to work.

greendale17 · 03/10/2017 08:51

Mine were paid whilst I was still on maternity leave
