Feel devastated - manager says colleagues hate me

I had my mid year review today. It was basically a character assassination. I am very good at my job and my manager acknowledged that. She also said that all my colleagues and other teams that sit nearby dislike me. That I am rude and talk over people and forced someone to leave the team. That I give good feedback to people falsely and need retraining in doing so. I think it is partly explained by her bullying of two colleagues who I am supporting. I asked for a managed move to another team but she said I will have to organise it myself.

I feel absolutely devastated and have been crying for hours. I have worked for the organisation for over 15 years and nothing like this previously. My last end of year appraisal was at top marking.

Off for two days on leave but will call union on Monday for advice. Work in HMRC so no local HR dept and I don't trust my managers manager.

I just feel awful that people I like and respect have such a low opinion of me.

Thanks for all your kind comments. I have met with my union and given a report to senior management who appear to be taking it seriously. I have been advised by my union that I do not have enough evidence for the formal grievance procedure so will be pursuing mediation.
Also been assured that as far as anyone is aware, colleagues think highly of me.
Not sure what my manager's agenda was, but she has not come out of it very well.

Good to see your update, fingers crossed things improve.

I actually left a job because my manager repeatedly said everyone disliked me. Massively regret that as found out years later they didn’t & she was jealous of my youth & looks ConfusedConfused
My confidence took a massive hit & took me a long time to get back to the same level Sad
Hold your head high, it’s your job. You can’t go wrong with people if you remember to always be kind.

I have worked as Appraiser and also been at the other side of the table.

I have sympathy with you and you have already been given lot of good advise.

I would just suggest that you also carefully reflect on your attitude and behaviour as well. Perhaps the language you use or the tone might be the reason that people misunderstand you, unless your manager is not honest and has different agenda.

Are you the same person who posted in the past regarding Tiffin Girls and Holland Park Schools under different user name? You comments were often useful.

Well done for getting union and senior management involved. If nothing else it is very bad management. Your manager should have dealt straight away with the inappropriate behaviour he/she had witnessed - not stay silent and then dump it all on you in the mid term review. But I think - given your past performance - they are just having an axe to grind with you and are trying to put you down for whatever reason. Very good you are alerting union/senior management to their management style.
