Wibu to call in sick ?

Hi

I know not really an emplyment issue but thought this was probably the best place for this.didnt want the traffic of Aibu just in case .

I have been with my current employer 5 months. I have endometriosis and Ibs which i was open about from the very beggining and let them know at the interview which they were fine about .

I have been fortunate with the endo so far in having some better months and managing it while going in for my shifts . unfortunately i have had some personal issues at home including Harrasment issues from abusive family member and other stresses which i am in counselling for.

This has affected my conditions and i have had a bad past month or so. last month i was hit quite hard with endo went into work but it resulted in me being late in. I explained to work what happend which they were ok about. I have not missed any days so far for my conditions or any unrelated illness/ reasons .

I had requested a few holiday days for this week as i could see the endo being a problem this month( which issues at home.) i communicated this to work and they said unfortunate ly they could not authroise holiday request. I spoke direct to one manager who said if it came to it and i had to call in sick they would just have to deal with it.

I have been hit With Endo symptoms over the weekend (luckily not on working days) and also was at work ill for 2 days before that with cold symptoms sore throat runny nose temprature. Its progressed over the weekend to body shivers and pains and headache exhaustion. Stomach pain and some nasua today.
I just want to sleep but also cant get comfortable due to Endo pain nd symptoms
.
Without being too outing i work in the community ( think healthcare but not nurse or nhs employed) . so need to be on the ball . also do not want to pass on my symptoms to those i come into contact with. i also travel from place to place for my work each day which even when feeling 100% is very tiring .i just dont feel up to going in.

But i would be letting the people i see down and work would need to cover this work . they have had a lot of absences very recently and had to ask for help left right and centre to cover. They seemed to have been let down for today as message went out asking for more help.
I have also been off two days ( already my days off) so it might look cheeky taking tommorow off . but in all honesty i think i will need a couple of days before feeling about to go in .

So Would it be ureasobale to call in sick ?

Forgot to add tmy requested holiday was from tommorow for 3 days. So if im off best case scenario for 1 day its the start of first day of holiday request . worried it looks suspect .
Dont know if im j st over thinking i dont like calling in sick.. first time. i have called in since i started there not sure what to expect .
Thanks for any replies in advance

If you are sick then you aren't BU to call in sick but if it puts your mind at ease in terms of what work will think get a sick note from your doctor.

Hi Bobbipin
Thankyou for your reply .

My doctor is good and has been very helpful re garding my conditions. As far as i know though i can only get a note after being off for more than 7 days i cant see myself being off that long ( i really hope not) probably a couple of days.

When bad the endo has me out usally for a couple of days then i feel able to manage and brave it again. I cant predict the cold symptomd other symptoms . i think i probably would be able to manage if it wasnt for The endo aswell.

I mostly just feel guilty for letting down the people i visit and work having to cover my work

Thanks again for ur replyxx

Yeah I understand the feelings of guilt but you do need to put yourself first, especially if the endo will reduce your standard of care. Would it cause big problems if you went in so they could see you are struggling and then go home?

From what I gather, you're working with vulnerable people in their homes (carer?) so really shouldn't be taking your cold/flu germs with you!

I think if I were you I'd call in sick. You are sick! Flowers

Hi Bobbipin
Yes it wouldnt be acceptable to go and and expect to go home if i couldnt cope as they wouldng be able to get cover at a moment's notice . so would be expected to finish my shift and cover my work calls.
There also wouldnt be anyone to witness me struggling to send me home not that i can see them doing that as cant afford to do so.

Thankyou for your reply xx

Hi Brutusmcdogface

Thanks for your reply. Yes you are correct i think its probably obvious from the op i am a Carer. So the people i work with are very much my concern by going in with cold/ potential flu symptoms and passing it on unfortunately it seems to be the expectation to go in with these symptoms due to staffing.

Well i havnt gone in. Feel guilty as know them having to get my colleagues to cover will disrupt the care of the clients. Also it puts more work on colleagues.

The cold symptoms seem to have eased off . left today with mostly just a feeling of weakness and exhaustion plus the Endo discomfort. Quite a bit of nasuea early this morning . so wondering if i could of coped . then that's how i feel having rested in bed .

I had a very fitful nights sleep ptoperly awake just before 5 managed to get back to sleep about 8.30 for a couple of hours . which i wouldnt been able to do being at work today.

Thanks again for replys
