job interview: should I contact the agent again, or the company, or just leave it?

I had a job interview for an IT consultancy firm a few weeks ago. They liked me and invited me back for a 2nd interview at one of their client sites. The guy there liked me as well but wasn't sure if my skills really matched what they were looking for. Anyway, I didn't hear anything for a few days, until the job agency rang and said it was basically between me and another person. No futher contact for another few days so I rang the job agent, who said he thought they were still interviewing again but he found it hard to get hold of them. Since then - nothing. I assume it was a 'no' answer but a final answer would have been nice! I've not had this situation before - should I pester the job agent again? Or contact the actual company? Or just let it go.

I would ring the agency again and see if they give you a credible response, if not ring the Company.

People say no news is good news but I reckon it usually means you 'ain't got the job!'

They could be interviewing some more if they are not sure

Keep trying ...if you didn't get it, you could still benefit from feedback as to why you were pipped at the post.

tried to ring the agency but the guy was out of the office. Will try again on Tuesday. If no joy, I might contact the actual company. I don't mind too much if I don't get the job, but the lack of response bugs me after I went to 2 interviews!

Paddington - sorry if I sounded really negative earlier (just re read my reply), I didn't mean to. Its just that I have been both sides of the fence on this one but there can of course be a geniune reason for a delay and not everyone is courteous enough to keep people informed.

I also tend to give practical responses / technical advice rather than fluffy sympathy stuff (though my thoughts are there) and this can probably come across as a bit curt

chocolatekimmy, no your response was fine, i prefer that for stuff like this. I'd pretty much written the job off as by next week it'd be 3 weeks since my 2nd interview! I reckon the 1st guy liked me but my skills weren't quite right for their current project, so maybe they are interviewing more. would just be nice to get the final 'no' rather than just think 'well i guess i didn't get it then'..
