Why should it take so long to be paid??

I'm supposed to get paid at the end of the month.

It's now the 5th and I still haven't been paid.
We need the money. We've had to change direct debit dates etc.

I thought if a standing order was set up then money was exchanged straight away. Why should it take days?

Its a bank holiday tommorow so I won't get it till tuesday at the earliest now

I've emailed my boss but had no reply.

Ring personnel/accounts, now, and throw a quite massive wobbly.

Just had an email back from my boss.
She's very sorry and is going to go to the bank on saturday ask why it takes so long. And its going to leave her bank earlier next month.

Its a private job situation not with a company so much trickier to discuss things like this.

btw it's a breach of contract if they don't pay you on time (i.e. by whatever dat is in your contract) and if you incur any charges as a result (eg. late payment fees etc) they are liable for them.

I was shifting money around last week (pre end-of-tax-year stuff) and had huge problems because the BACS system that transfers money between banks was playing up - maybe this has caused the delay?

Yes maybe Mrs B. It was late last month too. Fine when I was paid weekly but just switched to monthly as trying to sort out our finances.
