Hi, I'm just wondering if anyone trained to work in psychology after having children, and if so, how they have found it.
As some background, I started a PhD in a social science before having my children, but I knew pretty much from the start that I had made a mistake. I realised that I wanted to something more engaged with people, and I really enjoyed the teacher/ tutoring part of my post-graduate work. I also loved some volunteer mentoring I did while studying.
In the end, I left my PhD after a year and have stayed at home with the children. I had been thinking about training as a counsellor, but am wondering whether it might be worth trying to train in psychology itself. I have enough undergraduate psychology credits from electives to apply for an MSc conversion course, which I appreciate would only be the first step, but might be something I could consider before it would otherwise be practical for me to go back into work.
I would really appreciate hearing about anyone's experiences.
TIA
