Time off for medical procedure

One of my superiors told me I could have a sick day - the other asked me to work the morning and take TOIL that I've built up. I'm so annoyed. I've got to have a gastroscopy. What are my rights? Employer makes up the rules as they go along

You are not entitled to paid time off for medical appointments, so if this situation isn't covered by any policy at your work and you have no HR to advise on what normally happens, you might have to take TOIL, assuming it is the more senior of the managers who is saying that.

Just take annual leave. Saves any hassle and aggro and it is only a couple of days.
