do'nt know what to do!

my maternity pay runs out in october and havent really got a job to go back to as i was a nanny and the family are moving further away.
I dont want to work anymore as i love being at home soooooo much with my ds.
We have got some savings and i could stay at home until after christmas but i would have to find a job for definate after then,but also im worried that if i did this then we would have to not but as many presents for everyone because money would still be tight.
I also dont really know if i want to find another nanny job or do something different.
I feel a bit weary of doing something else as i have been a nanny now for about 9 years.
Any advice please......

Hi, I was being nosey reading this thread, but I too am in the same position, I have given up my full time position as my dd starts school in Sept, so I have got myself a nice little job working in dd school, looking after a child with DS. My mother suggested that I don't buy presents for them at Christmas as I will be down about 14k per year in salary, do you know what I'm going to do...............
A POTTERY CLASS and all the items I make, I am going to hand out at Christmas, I will make sure they are worth giving out, I will put my signature on them, my mother said she couldn't find a nice fruit bowl, so when I get the hang of it, I will buy some nice tissue paper and that will be my gift ideas.

Hi malinki,that sounds like fun,i was already thinking of making cards with my ds to give to everyone and also its more personal.
Its hard though not to buy presents as i love doing this but i know its more important to spend time with my ds.

Hi twiglett,i think you are right about christmas presents.
No i ca'nt stay at home forever we have done a budget plan and i really need to earn at least 100 pound a week.
I thought about childminding and i do think that it is something to think about in the future but at the moment are house is too small and would need lots done to it.
Nursery is an option and also finding another nanny job where i can take ds with me.
My dh is'nt too keen on that because he is'nt too happy on his ds being in somebody else's house for 10 hours a day because nannying is usually long hours.

100 pounds a week isn't too much... it's a cliche, but how about becoming a catalogue rep, or just an 'occasional babysitter' for when people need someone in the evening/shrt notice, or some other working at home thing (ironing, CVs whatever). You could try, then change your mind if you had to...

Happymummy have you thought about waitressing a couple of nights a week - bet you could earn at least £100 if including tips and what about WFTC and all that stuff can you apply for that??

Happymummy - why don't you be an afterschool nanny. The going rate in London is around £7 per hour net. Usually for about 20 hours perweek (3-7pm) which gives you the £100+ a week you are looking for (when you take out the school holidays and average it over the whole year). That way you get most of the day with your DS but can still take him to work with you for a few hours each day.

Where do you live? If it is in or near London I can pass you some info on where to advertise etc. These afterschool nannies are very very much in demand!

hi,good idea twinkie dont know why i didnt think of something like that.
Soapbox i did think about after school nannying, i live in wiltshire so the pay isnt as good.
Thankyou for all youre thoughts about it,i already feel much better about it all.I am a worrywart,i know i should just enjoy the time i have left on maternity pay.

Just try not to worry. You will find something to fit in with your family, and I'm sure you have a best friend somewhere that will help with ds if you need it. xx

Hello all well just to keep you updated there is'nt so much of a worry now.My lovley dh has just got a payrise so it looks like i can take my time on finding the right job and not worrying about money!

malinki - my sister did a pottery class a few years ago and gave everything away as pressies - beautiful gifts to receive! enjoy your classes! It's something I've always thought of doing too
