What's the best way for a middle aged woman to get into event management?

I dropped out of uni (accountancy) and currently work in admin/accounts part time.
My dream job is event management but I don't really know what the best way to get into it is without experience or a degree.
Would it be best to do a course?

I work as an event manager in a hotel and the only real requirement was for a strong admin background, great organisation skills and willingness to get stuck in. I think it's probably about finding the right opportunity. Is that the sort of thing you had in mind?
