Why am I still waiting? Emergency services HR advice needed.

I will try and keep this short. I took voluntary redundancy from the emergency services 18 months ago. In March this year I applied for a similar post in the emergency services. I was successful in interview and now I am going through the recruitment process. I have had to go through vetting and a medical process then references, before my final job offer. I've had my medical passed in June, which I was told was the last stage. I have no financial issues or legal issues to impact on my vetting. Now it's almost August and I still have no job offer. What is going on? I don't understand why it is taking so long. Anyone working in HR can give me any advice? I was initially offered a June start date which was then moved to September because of my summer holiday. But September is fast approaching and nothing. I could scream!! Sad

When was the last time you spoke to someone and asked for an update?

Last time was on 30 June. I got an email a day later telling me they were waiting for my vetting and final references, then they would be offering me the post to start in September.?? I don't get how it is taking so long?

Contact them again.

Anyone give an educated guess why I am still waiting? If there was a problem with anything, surely I would have been rejected? I honestly can't think of anything that could be causing such a delay. So frustrated.

Why are you waiting for them to contact you? I would be chasing them up weekly for an update.

Vetting is very slow atm. I went through a similar process lat year (not for medical sector) and it took the best part of 4 months....don't lose heart! There were no issues with mine, but they were still very slow.

evensmiling: I understand how long vetting can take, and how busy they are, so I didn't want to make myself a nuisance. Its been so long though that I'm going to have to do that. I'm moving soon and I cant apply for my next mortgage until I have my firm offer. Its so frustrating!
Bobbin: Thanks for that, I needed to hear that someone else has gone through it. Flowers

So 4 weeks ago they didn't have your vetting or references? I think it's perfectly reasonable to ring them again to see whether they've now had those, and if they have, whether your offer is on its way.

Vetting can take forever! A recent addition to my team (prison service) took 7 mmonths last year Shock

Not unreasonable to ask for an update but be prepared to be told they haven't got a timescale for when it will be back.
