Lesson learned or is there anything I can do?

Noticed a new magazine was being published and sent off an email to the editor asking if he'd be interested in any of my articles for it. Also they launched this magazine at a recent exhibition. Met with his colleagues (he was on walkabout at exhibition) and handed over my business card. He replied to my email stating he was very interested and sorry to have missed me. They were about to start working on issues 3&4 and be great if I could send him some ideas and examples of my previous articles. Since then I've heard nothing back but noticed that he'd used one of my ideas in issue 2.

I don't want to state what the magazine is for fear of outing myself but it was previously run by a couple of people and was really tired - same type of stuff each issue. A rather large publishing company took it over and I'd hoped that it change a bit but it's still employing the previous publisher as a consultant so the same stuff is being churned out. I'm just miffed they now have all my different ideas and the editor will now write the articles himself.

Well it could be a coincidence. If this is a specialist magazine there are only so many ideas aren't there?

It's annoying but most likely co-incidence.
If an editor is writing most, if not all, of the magazine, it shows they have absolutely no budget. In my experience, the last thing a magazine editor wants to do is write more than one or two items per issue. This is especially telling if it's been taken over by a big publisher. As @MrsOver says, there are only so many ideas in a specialist magazine. I've worked for one for five years, and see the same themes pop up again and again.
