Why was I asked this?

Had an interview and got offered the job. Very happy. During the phone call to offer me the job (and after I was told they wanted to offer it to me) I was asked if my reasons for wanting part time were because of childcare. I was told it was a personal question and I didn't have to answer. Job was advertised as full time with Job share considered. I went through the guaranteed interview scheme so on my form I stated what my health condition was, so assuming they did know.

But I'm confused as to why this was asked after I was offered the job. If I had said it is for child care reasons, would that have gone against me? Would they have recinded the job offer them and there? I told them it was for health reasons, which it mainly is.

Maybe they wanted you full time and would have offered it to you fill time?

Grasping at straws but if it was childcare you're unlikely to have much flexibility whereas health reasons it might be possible to say 'can you swap Wed with Thurs' or whatever. No idea if this is the reason!

They had already said they wanted someone full time but I told them in the interview I was looking for part time. I also said I can be flexible. It will be because of childcare too. Kids will need to go into clubs in the holidays. I don't think it will be 'can you come in at short notice' job. It think the hours will be set and I can negotiate when I speak to HR.
