Checking in with manager when off sick?

I have been seriously ill and off sick for about 6 weeks so far. Work have been amazing and so supportive. I am signed off for another 2 weeks and based on the seriousness of my illness, they know I'm likely going to get signed off for another fair period of time. How often should I be checking in and letting them know how I'm doing? They're all lovely and I know there's no pressure, just not sure if I should be touching base regularly. Thanks in advance.

Whenever you get a new sicknote would be the minimum, our sick policy at work says the manager has to have a face to face catch up in the 4th week either at work, in the employees home or at an agreed place like a coffee shop. Its just to have a more in depth chat and make sure the employee if being supported, that there's no amendments or anything that work could make like reduced hours.

Surely you can only update them each time you get re-signed off? When I was signed off, I was not expected to touch base with them inbetween sick notes, merely to tell them when I had seen GP and the outcome each time.

Thank you both for the quick replies. They have been concerned about me and wanting to know so I was updating colleagues, well my family was when I was very ill. Now I'm more settled, I wanted to keep them aware but not sure how much.

I'd say every couple of weeks when you get a new sick note is fine. If you wanted to drop them an email in between times that would show you were thinking about keeping them informed too but isn't strictly necessary imo

Oh yes, I planned to keep it informal but they've been supportive and I want to show that I'm keeping in touch, even if there's no way I could work at the moment.
