Have realised the only future career option with 3 little ones is to work termtime. What are the options? Thanks for any advice! (Am half way through degree at the mo, happy to train further for a year or two, as long as training is school hours!!)

Teacher? TA? Other education based professional?

imnot27 · 22/03/2007 20:00

Seems v hard to get to qualify as TA? Need experience to get placement, need placement to get experience!

If you've got a degree you're probably over qualified for a TA's job. What about doing a PGCE?

LilyLoo · 22/03/2007 20:04

Most of TA'S at our place started out doing voluntary work.

Quite a lot of my salt colleaugues only work termtime.

LilyLoo · 22/03/2007 20:05

You could be doing voluntary work now to fit in around your degree although if you got three lo's might be easier said than done.

Yes, agree. Doubt you could demand it at your interview In fact, you'd be lucky to get an interview anyway, all fixed contracts these days with Labour trying to outdo Tories in "who can sack the most civil servants" race

I work for a large Bank in the UK who are very supportive of working parents and I have been on a termtime contract for the last 2 yrs.

My local council also advertises termtime vacancies for various departments.
