made the big decision to go back to work - only to find I can't get a job!

Since last September I have been applying for jobs and some course. I get the local paper every week and apply for all the things I am suitbale for. so many times I have thought I was perfect for a job and not got to interview.

Finally after about 20 applications I got to interview and.. didn't get the job.

Usual stuff - close second, hard to choose, did really well blah blah.

Could it be that I brought up term time working????

YES don't bring that up

No where is going to let you do much of that

Don't mention it until they have OFFERED the job

What are you looking for in terms of working hours?

it was 16.5 to 18 hours a week and it required me to be flexable in terms of the odd evening and weekend - which I was prepared to do. I asked if it would be possible to do more hours in term time and less in the school holidays.

Am I an idiot?

Have a chat with someone down at the job centre. I know our local one has a clerk who specialises in term time and school hours jobs

What do you do?

Call them and ask them if the term time working was a problem, what you could work on for your next interview and let them know you are still very interested should the other person not pan out.

only thing i can offer is do not ask for anything specific until you have been offered a job. Once you have it and they think you're ok and don;t want to lose you (it costs them more as they have to find soneone else) then you're in a better position. Most employers are b**ds and only want to take people on who are committed body and soul )and hours...
