Any Publicans to answer a quick question?

I've just started a new job managing a pub. I was formally managing both 4 and 5 star hotels.

I was wondering if it's permitted to wear sandals in a pub manager role?
The overall dress code looks to be a lot less stringent than in my old place, and having taken a 6 week break between jobs i have nothing to wear and no money to buy anything!
For reference, I would like to wear my Birkenstocks. Not the flip floppy kind.

I'm thinking risk assessments regarding barrels and stuff maybe not?

My DP is a pub manager & he says no, barrels & broken glass are too much of a risk with exposed toes!
All companies wil have their own rules but he wouldn't allow it in his pub
