Is this reasonable?

Very briefly, due to personal issues and recognising that as a result I wasn't being particularly effective in my current managerial role, I requested a demotion back to my original role within the company and this was agreed. However, although I had only ever received 2k salary increase for my managerial responsibilities they have reduced my salary by 5k. This is 3k less than when I was doing my previous job eight years ago. Am I being unreasonable in expecting to revert to the same salary that I had before?

Of course that's not reasonable but I do wonder why you didn't have a conversation about salary when negotiating returning to your previous role.

Toes. It honestly didn't occur to me that they would do this. I made an assumption which obviously I shouldn't have.

Tammy. It isn't a mistake. I've made an initial query and they've confirmed that it is because of a 'reduction in my responsibilities'.

Well of course I expected a salary drop. Just not that much.

I did something very similar and reverted back to my previous salary (tbh the payrise vs additional responsibility just wasn't worth it!). Is there a salary band you could refer to? My company were upfront about it before I signed anything. Have you signed a change of contract or job description? Do you have leverage to argue for a reversion to your previous role (even though you don't want to) on the grounds that you don't want to revert unless they match your old salary?
