Teacher UPS

Hi,

Does anyone have any experience of moving from UPS2 to UPS3? This is my third year on UPS2 and I'll have been in my current job for a term shy of two academic years come July - as I started January 2016.

Anyway, I'm due to start maternity leave in July and I was wondering what the deal was with moving up to UPS3. An email from my head teacher said that I would have had to have written a formal application in September/October and that would have needed to have been approved by governors. This all suggests that I am too late to get my pay increase. I was under the impression that progression happened automatically once on the upper pay scale.
Can anyone shed any light on this?

Thanks Smile

No such thing as an automatic pay increase any more, even on the main pay scale. It should be linked to successful achievement of performance objectives, but the school may also require additional evidence including contribution to initiatives with a whole-school impact.

Your school should have a pay policy which describes what is required. My school has a meeting each year for teachers moving to/up UPS to detail this.

What noble said. Check your pay policy which should set out criteria for progression on main and upper scales.

Ok, that's helpful.
Thank you.
