Redundancy talks on mat leave

I wonder if anyone is able to clarify my rights for me.

I am currently on maternity leave and arranged my back to work programme to start KIT days next month and return full time in July last week.

Friday I received a call and was told that due to restructure I am being made redundant and may have he opportunity to apply for a similar role during the restructure if available. This is happening to the entire operations team across our group due to a merge into one place of work and one team. This is happening end of December.

My contract ends September which was formality and the intention was to extend following that, as such my maternity cover is in contract until December.

It seems my redundancy will take affect in September and he person covering my job will be able to do so until December when the company changes occur.

Is this just morally unfair or do I have some kind of legal right here to have my redundancy take affect in December alongside everyone else?

If your own contract ends in September, then I don't see what legal right you would have. The intention was to extend, but the actual contract has not been extended.

Since yours is not a permanent in house role, the person doing maternity cover would have been employed on a separate fixed term contract.

Hi. Thank you for replying. Having spoken briefly to ACAS the whole situation is complicated but has now been made simpler. My company are extending my contract until January so I will be in line with the company. Thank you for your help
