Offsetting KIT days against SMP

In my previous maternity leave KIT days were paid in addition to the SMP. The organisation has changed a bit since then but now I've had the KIT days offset against SMP. I have not found any document or policy stating that the pay would be offset, the documents only state that I will be paid the KIT day. Does anyone know if an organisation has to state that the KIT days will be off set against SMP?

Employers can offset a kit day against smp. There is some guidance about it on the maternity action website. The best thing to do for next time is to check how they will be paying it. You can always try to negotiate but of course they will likely have one rule as they will want to treat everyone the same. If you are taking the unpaid portion of mat leave then you will be paid your usual daily rate if doing a kit day.

Thanks. It seems strange that it isn't written down anywhere. HR/payroll is centralised and have given me lots of incorrect information and gone back on decisions, so unfortunately it doesn't really work going through them. I may give Maternity Action a call about it.
