Sick note query..

I have been off with a sickness bug since last Tuesday. Still didn't feel 100%, thought I'll have a final day to recover and go back in tomorrow. HR told me I need a sick note as today makes 7 days. Rang docs and they can only fit me in thurs pm. Do I have to wait for sick note (fit note) before I can go back in to work?

I would ring GP back explain you need a note and see if they'll fit you in a phone appointment today. That's what my GP would do. Then they should leave you a note to pick up at the surgery.

I tried that one and they said as it's my first sick note the GP has to see me.

Do walk in clinics give sick notes? I would head there. I would also phone work and just explain what the surgery has said. Ask if they would like you to come into work tomorrow and still attend the doctors on Thursday and then bring in the note. Leave the ball in their court.
