WWYD? Organisation hiring while also making 200 redundancies

Two jobs on the website of a charitable organisation who are currently also going through major restructuring at the moment. This means that they're currently in the process of making 200 redundancies over the coming months.

I could conceivably do both jobs, and I need a job. However my thinking is that due to the numbers of redundancies it's highly likely that these jobs will both go to internal candidates, and that external advertising is purely for the purpose of following protocol.

Am torn between just applying and seeing what happens, not applying at all, or being brazen and emailing them to ask whether it's worth applying as I am aware of the restructuring and therefore aware of the potential for internal recruitment and that I don't want to waste their time or mine (I won't word it like that obviously.).

Apply. They can ringfence jobs through redundancy so if they just wanted internal applicants they would have done that. However you will almost definitely be up against internal candidates but that doesn't mean you aren't the best person for the job

You can apply but be aware that organisations going through major restructures will potentially have a lot of unhappy staff depending on how things are being handled.

Apply. Unless they are very specialist roles, you probably will come up against internal applicants but any interviewing body worth their weight will want the best candidates for the jobs, which may well be someone external, rather than internal candidates who, in some cases, may have applied in order to try and avoid redundancy. I recently sat on an interview panel where several candidates were facing redundancy and it was unfortunately obvious that some had no specific interest in the role for which we were interviewing.

If you don't apply you definitely can't get the job. The worst they can say is no. Nothing ventured nothing gained.

I think you should speak to hr, and make the case that the jobs advertised are suitable alternative employment, it will be up to then to demonstrate why they are not. Just be aware that this could also apply to some of the other people being made redundant, so may not actually benefit you.

I work for a non for profit organisation that is going through a major restructuring. One part of the organisation were offered a chance to apply for new roles or redundancy. I imagine there will be external recruitment as well soon but the fact that there are redundancies won't have any impact on that. And yes we are all miserable.

There's no law that says you have to advertise externally, and it would not be best practice to do this if an employer thought they had the resource internally. So, the very fact that these roles are being advertised externally suggests there is doubt they can fill them from internal candidates.

Where I work, we will advertise an external role even when internal candidates are at risk of redundancy, if the role is at a higher level and we doubt the internal candidates are suitable. They are welcome to apply, and we will consider them alongside externals but if they were thought to be suitable from the off they would be offered the role on a preferential basis.

Redundancies/restructurings are often used to get rid of 'dead wood'. If they ha internal applicants they thought suitable, they would not be advertising externally.
